On Friday, I ordered $60 worth in merchandise from Amazon.com, half the total of which was taken by a $30, 2-DVD set of silent comedy, called Weiss-O-Rama. My wife and I are huge fans of silent cinema, especially the comedy, so we were looking forward to it. The pleasant surprise was that it arrived today (Monday), but the dark side is explicable only if the item it created “on demand” and was botched, but this is not likely, as the order page said that there were a limited number remaining. Not all of the material was on the ONE (1) DVD which arrived with the package today. It was in a DVD package which had room for only ONE (1) DVD, not the two promised on the site… AND ON THE BACK OF THE PACKAGE! There is not place for a second DVD, and indeed it is not there.
I looked on the Amazon.com site, and there is no way to contact them, just a return policy. If I ordered another one from them, I have no guarantee that the replacement will not be another defective, fraudulent, ripoff. As I’ve said, because of the packaging, this could not have been a mistake.
I’m tempted to mail @amazon.com, to jeff or bezos or jeffbezos or jbezos, but I don’t know if they work, or if he even gives enough of a damn to even have an e-mail address @amazon.com.
