Howard Dean stepped down as head of the Dem National Committee. The NYT’s Caucus blog speculates that he wants to be Secretary of HHS in Obama’s cabinet.

They also say that Obama might want his own peeps at the DNC, and that is entirely it. Obama, of course, is post-partisan, so he might want to tab a laregly non-partisan figure like Senator Chuck Schumer (D-New York). (Sitting Senators have served as party chairs, or co-chairs, and I was kidding when I laughed off Chuckie’s partisanship.)
